The Hoop Car is India's first-ever mobile basketball unit, launched with the mission of promoting basketball in the hilly areas of North Bengal. The unique initiative brings basketball directly to remote locations, including tea gardens, where underprivileged children have little to no access to sports facilities. Through The Hoop Car, these children are given the opportunity to receive coaching and training, with a chance to compete at the national level.
Govinda Sharma, the visionary behind this groundbreaking project, has been gaining increasing recognition for his efforts. In collaboration with the Siliguri Traffic Police, the Hoop Car provides a platform for people to play 3x3 basketball on the move. This innovative initiative, also supported by the Siliguri Sikh Youth Forum Welfare, not only promotes basketball but also serves to raise awareness for "Safe Drive, Safe Life", all while offering free basketball coaching to underprivileged children.
